HISTORY:

Red Bull was derived from a drink named Krating Daeng, which originated in Thailand by a pharmacist Chaleo Yoovidhya in 1967. This drink was popular among truck drivers and laborers in Thailand. In 1982, during a business visit, Dietrich Mateschitz met Yoovidhya. He took a drink from Yoovidhya. After drinking it, he claimed that it has cured his jet lag. Mateschitz seeks to create a partnership with Yoovidhya.

He decided to formulate a drink that would meet the tastes of Westerners, such as a carbonating drink. They each invested 500,000 dollars from their savings into the company’s fund. They each held 49% of the share. Another 2% was given to the Yoovidhya’s son, who was agreed to run the factory by Mateschitz. In 1984, they founded RED BULL GmbH company and turned it into an international brand. In 1987, the company’s first product was launched.

Price was the most crucial factor that differentiated Red Bull and Krating Daeng as premium and low-cost drinks, respectively. In many countries, both drinks are available at the end of the price spectrum.

During the 1990s, these drinks were expanded to many countries like Hungary, Germany, Slovenia, and United States, and the Kingdom. In 2008, Mateschitz and Yoovidhya were listed as the 250th richest persons in the world with a net worth of almost US $4 billion (about $12 per person in the US).
